i've been advised to use a php cms, sounds like a good idea. my host has got dot net nuke on the server. Any ideas how using this might effect my seo?

I am not aware of a CMS that produces SEO friendly code. Then again, I use DW or FrontPage as my CMS so I haven't been looking.
