Strange Problem - 6/1/2006 13:53:16
We have had a couple of users (Intranet) who, after an upgrade to Office 2003, are receiving an Internal Server Error from one our servers. The error occurs when accessing our search engine. If the user logs onto another PC, all is well. If another user logs onto the users PC all is well. So, this leads me to the problem being within the user's profile on that PC. I even had the user forward me the URL from the error page and when I click it, I get search results, no error. AFAIK, the PCs run XP Pro. I realize the odds of someone having an idea as to the cause of this or a solution are remote, but thought I would post in the hopes someone would have a guess. Not sure it matters, but the search engine resides on a Unix based box running Convera's RetrievalWare software.

Internal Server Error Got any more than that? Is there a way to make that message more descriptive either thru the browser prefs or the host settings?

The next paragraph is: The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. The problem, however, really seems to be the user's settings on his/her PC. I wonder if there is more to a http request than meets the eye, meaning are there things sent to the server other than the form data? Just for kicks, I directed the two users to an internet site that uses the same search engine software. Sure enough, both users got an error message while people sitting next to them could access the page without difficulty. Something in the Office 2003 install seems to have gone awry for these two users.

How about making it a trusted site? Could be an ActiveX not loading?
