Visual C++.

I ran into the term while looking up ODBC online. I have heard/read about it before.

Can anyone explain it to me?

Visual C++ is Microsoft's implementation of a high level programming language called C++

It's used by programmers to produce full blown applications - executable programs (in this case for Windows.)

http://www.foldoc.org - it's an online dictionary of computer terms - if you type in a query for c++ they've got a good definition there with lots of link.
