Looking For Feedback On Credit Card Merchants - 6/2/2006 14:06:24
I’m looking for some feedback on Credit Card Merchants.

While rates and processing fees are always important, there are a lot of other factors that are certainly important in selecting a Credit Card Merchant to process online credit card transactions.

Actually, the items I have listed in red are actually the highest importance to me; more so than Rates & Processing Fees since from what I’ve seen, rates & fees are fairly close and competitive throughout the industry. More important to me, is the usability and fit, for both my customers from a purchasing perspective and for my business from an Admin perspective.

I’d like to hear feedback from others who process credit cards online at their websites and what works well and does not work well for them.

Some of the things I’m considering are:

How well does the CC Merchant’s online processing plan fit my online business model?

How well does the CC Merchant handle setting up recurring payments for customer purchases? One-time purchases are fairly straight-forward and simple. My sales involve setting up customers on recurring payments.

Does setting up recurring payments require my business to data-store all of the customers’ sensitive credit card information or can this be stored by the CC Merchant themselves on their system yet still provide me Admin access to the recurring customer info; therefore eliminating my having to store sensitive customer CC information within my system?

How much flexibility does the CC Merchant allow me in branding my CC transactions with my business logos etc for my customer purchase transactions?

How easy & friendly is the CC Merchant’s online processing method for my online customers?

How easy does the CC Merchant make it for me to manage payments & customers? What online gateway/portals/tools do they make available to me?

"Ease of Integration into my site". Whichever company's solution I decide on should be pretty quick and easy to integrate into my site; shouldn't have to code much into my site except some "payment buttons" or "payment links".

Rates & Processing Fees

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide on this.

I personally would have a look at authorize.net (AIM Method) - seems to do pretty much what you need there. They take care of the credit card payments so you don't need to worry about storing the credit card information, their control panel is quite adequate, support recurring billing, credit card details would be entered on your site so that's pretty seamless and rates are reasonably competitive.

Thanks for the info Andy. I will definitely take a look at Authorize.net. I'm starting to put together a list of companies to compare. I have some recent past experience with CardService and PayPal so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for.

Another thing I would add to my list of important features is "Ease of Integration into my site". Whichever company's solution I decide on should be pretty quick and easy to integrate into my site; shouldn't have to code much into my site except some "payment buttons" or "payment links".

Thanks again for your feedback.
