PC restart itself and can't get to Welcome Screen - 6/6/2006 15:30:09
Hi all, I am running Window XP sp2 and just last night when i was surfing, my computer froze so I reboot. Once I reboot, the computer when into a loop of restarting. It never gets to the Welcome screen. I can see the screen and a quick flash of the blue screen then back to the start up bios. What can I do to get this fix? is there a new virus out there that is causing this problem or do I need to reformat and reinstall my HDD. Please help. thanks

do I need to reformat and reinstall my HDD Only as a last resort. Hi and Welcome to OutFront. I'd restart in Safe Mode Command Propmot Only and see if you can run a: chkdsk /r That will frequently repair broken drivers (which it looks it may be.) It won't do any harm and may help. Hope so...

how do I get into safe mode and once I do that, do I go to run and type in "a: chkdsk/r"? what do I do next if that is done. do I restart and it should start up back into the normal mode. could it be an virus also? let me try this and i will post tonight. that's if I can get into my welcome screen and go online. thanks

I can't run that chkdsk/r command. Did you boot into Safe Mode Command Prompt Only?

blodg8, What kind of computer is it? To run the chkdsk/r do this... Boot your computer from your Windows XP Cd When it comes up Press the letter R on your keyboard to proceed to the Windows Recovery Console. As you progress to the Recovery Console you may be asked which partition you would like to boot into. Type the number associated with the partition containing your NTFS partition (usually 1 or 2) and then press enter to continue. Now you should be at a command prompt type in the chkdsk/r
