bbigham -> Can you really do webwork on dialup? DSL? (6/11/2006 14:50:55)

For years, I've been spoiled with very fast cable connection. I've come to rely on it for my business, which includes a great deal of internet research and even some webwork for clients. Now, though, I'm thinking about moving into the country and getting cable will probably be an impossibility. I'll be lucky to get DSL and very well may have to rely on satellite or, who knows -- dialup??? I'm reading a lot about the various types of connections and getting a lot of facts and figures, but knowing the mbps speed doesn't help me understand the "real life" aspect of slower speeds. Can you really do webwork (and other internet stuff like research) if you only have DSL, satellite or even <gulp> dialup? I remember my first modem was a 300 baud connection to Compuserve so I know what it's like to crochet while something downloads, but things have gotten better than that, haven't they? What do those of you who live in the "boonies" do? Any tips, advice or suggestions (or even warnings) will be GREATLY appreciated. Barbara
