Nancy -> Invisible Hit Counter (11/14/2001 20:41:00)

Here's an article from the lastest MS FrontPage Bulletin on how to make invisible hit counters - something we seem to have a lot of requests for.

http://www.microsoftfrontpage.com/content/TipsAndTricks/fp2000/InvisibleHitCounter.htm

Hope this helps someone.

Also, when going to that link that Nancy gave above, there is an important link to "how to retrieve results".
Their way is to open your web and look at the results through FrontPage. There's a better way.
Surf to http://yoursite.com/_private/yourpagewiththecounter.htm.cnt
You can then view your hits through your browser.

Addendum to my last post-
That "quick" way to view results of an invisible counter worked on our IntRAnet; but when I tried it on my www site, it didn't allow me in - so I'm guessing it won't work on the web???
I suppose it only worked on the intRAnet because the network was well aware that I was the administrator from my login. The www site didn't know for sure that it was me.

To have a single page with ALL the page counters on it insert this code into the body for each file name:

<!-- #INCLUDE FILE="_private\file-name.htm.cnt" -->

I Make a file called admin.asp and create a table with two columns, one for the file name and one for the results of the .cnt file.
The next trick will be to make the results read easirer than the standard:
"FPCountFile 00000000012"
