Interesting reading, especially the bit about the EuroAccessibility Consortium. I went trundling off to look at their website and was amazed to discover that they have partnered with the IWA of which I am a member and which I'm constantly being told is a waste of time and money. I think the latest phrase used was "Charlatans and money grabbers". Hmmmmm. Maybe a few people might like to have a rethink. quote:
IWA/HWG joins EuroAccessibility Consortium Venezia, 15 December 2003 The International Webmasters Association / HTML Writers' Guild (IWA/HWG) today signed the EuroAccessibility Memorandum of Understanding, the final stage in joining the EuroAccessibility Consortium through IWA Italy, the Europe, Middle East and African centre for IWA/HWG. IWA/HWG brings to the EuroAccessibility Consortium its membership of tens of thousands of practising Web developers, its online courses which are used to teach members about topics such as accessibility, and its experience as a W3C member working in many areas, such as the development of the next generation of HTML and working on WAI guidelines. It is formally represented in EuroAccessibility by IWA Italy, the European, Middle East and African coordination point for IWA/HWG, who among other achievements have worked closely with the Italian government on recently-introduced legislation which makes the work of W3C/WAI the formal basis for Web accessibility requirements in Italy, as part of the country's commitment to the e-Europe program. IWA/HWG representatives will participate in a number of areas of the EuroAccessibility work, extending the reach of its harmonisation and ensuring that EuroAccessibility and W3C/WAI work is widely recognised at all levels of industry in Europe. The EuroAcessibility Consortium, launched in April 2003, now numbers 25 European member organisations including IWA/HWG.
