website - plain and tall - 11/1/2001 23:18:00
Hi. I have just put up a redesigned version of a website at www.peatc.org It is a very basic website as we serve people who may be connecting by 2400 bps using aol 3.0 or something like that. So I don't use any Java or scripting in the design. Tell me what you think, please; any comments are appreciated. Thanks.Tony

Hi Non-Profit,Fast site. Seems that you have been very aware of your target audience, kudos!!! I see soo many sites that don't "deliver" to their core audience. I would split up the index page. I would make seperate pages for the following paragraphs: PEATC Mission Statement PEATC Philosophy Also I would make a location page out of the bottom where you list your offices. Which would basicly leave the Welcome to the PEATC home page paragraph, which I think would make a great index page on it's own. Great cause, keep up the nice work. Brian,Thanks for the comments. I've been telling the people in charge that I thought the homepage was kind of long, but that's the way they wanted it. I'm still trying to convince them that I should change it. Tony

Hi,Definitely split up the page. You can make the mission stand out, in fact more so, if you put a link to it to the left of the Welcome content. Same goes for the Philosophy. Tell the people is charge to listen to OutFront Forum members! Honestly, it's easier for the user to find the information if they don't have to scroll down too far. Hope this helps! Dan

Just checked it out. Some grammar on the home page "Our staff and board are parents of children" could read Our staff and board members are parents of children. I've copied the text and will work on it if you like and see what you think. Some of the site navigation jump around, I like the one where it's on top. Just a thought John ------------------ If you have to ask "Who's the man?" Your probaly not him.

John,Thanks for looking. I know that there probably are some grammar issues from the person who built the site. I just have not had a chance to look at all the pages yet. I have looked at most though and hopefully fixed them! I am a little confused by your comment that the navbar moves around. How do you mean? I've looked at it in IE, NN and AOL and the navbar was always on top. There are few pages where there is no "include page" navbar (e.g., the CSA pages, and the NEXT STEPS sections of the site) and those might be the ones to which you refer. They have only got nav links to other pages of that project in the site. Not to mention that they were also created before I started working there! Tony
