This is long….But a short list of observations with questions.
1: Notice the video aspect ratio 16 x 9 same as on hi-def TV.
2: The (size) of the video….Most of the online videos I’ve seen are tiny and square.
3: How quickly the video and music is loaded and starts playing….with broadband….none of my clients are using dial up.
4: Download this video in Windows Media format – 19.5MB….the lower bandwith version – 4 MB….what is the size of the original video as seen, compression?….software used to create the video?….How to dubb music to same??
5: I’ve been using Wisdom-soft auto screen recorder experimenting with cad generated 3D fly arounds with less than desirable results.
6: I’m planning to buy a wide screen digital video camcorder for finished homes to record both interior and exterior videos for my website….hence the reason for this post.
Maybe these should be broken down to individual questions but to start….

I just purchased the GS 500 Panasonic Mini DV camera and it does a super job with the wide screen format. It is not HD. But Jaybee is correct. It will cost you at least $700 U.S. for that camera but it is a honey of a camera. Latest PC mag rates it #1. It was not available in local stores so I had to mail order it. Try Circuit City. They have a lower cost version there so you can get the feel of it. I think it is a GS300. But the videos and stills are superior from the GS 500.

Price is really not a huge factor.
I have been reading reviews on dvspot and other forums for previous Panasonic digicam cameras.
The big problem I’ve seen reported concerning the Panasonic camcorders is poor results with low light inside recording.
Another is that the 16 x 9 mode is not true 16 x 9 but uses top and bottom black bars to crop the recording.
I have been considering a Hi Def 1080i camcorder but the problem is there are no Hi Def DVD recorders available now to make copies for my clients….and when they eventually come on the market there will be two competing formats HD vs. BLUE RAY (BETA vs. VHS all aver again)….even when the HI-DEF DVD recorders are on the market I will have no way to know which format my clients will have.
So,…. I am looking for a true 16 x 9 580 resolution camcorder that I can make copies on my DVD recorders either computer or HDMI.

I have been playing around with some low light recording and it seems to be OK.
The GS500 has a wide screen mode that has no black bars.
Go here http://www.pana3ccduser.com/ for a forum on Panasonic cameras. They have a lot of info on the HD questions also.

After more research I'm sort of leaning toward a Sony Hi Def camcorder at this point. HDR-HC1 or HDR-HC3.
One reason is all the other equipment I have (72" Hi Def LCD TV, DVD recorder, upconverting HDMI DVD player) all are Sony.
At this point it looks like I should be able to transfer HD video from the camcorder to either HD or Blue Ray recorders when the dust settles.
The only problem is that the computers I have are not Sony, and from what I’m seeing, to edit video one needs a Sony computer to edit video using their software.
However since I don’t plan to do a lot of editing (planning to use someone else for that) is why I’m leaning toward HI DEF Sony camcorders.
More as I become further educated.

P.S. The next question is how to get video on my website….it’s amazing what kids are uploading to youtube.

I think I’ll wait a little while before I get into editing although VEGAS 6 looks very good….
Need to decide on #2 which camcorder for now and other issues such as connectivity.
As a test I tried using the software below to record a screen video of the Nashville tower link in my 1st post above.

The result was an AVI file size of 129 MB….Zipped, the file size was 93MB….Clearly this can’t be used for video clips on a website.
So, at this point, my #1 main concern it to find software that can capture video at a suitable file size and resolution that can be loaded up to my website….The camcorder purchase will follow once I get a better handle on all this.

Just a heads up on posting videos on the web. Even if you use a video a couple of minutes long, it will be many megs in size. Usually too long for your dial up visitors. So know your viewers before posting any videos on your web site. Hopefully the viewers you want to reach have broadband. Most dialup visitors will not wait for the video to load. A good rule is to post the size of the video so that dialup visitors can go out to mow their lawn while your video is loading if they really want to see it.

When I designed and published my website 3 years ago I was on dial up so everything was, and is, optimized for that.
However, any prospective client who can afford one of my homes will have broadband, and as such they are expecting much more these days….and even more as web sites keep evolving…. hence my desire to add video.
All photos on my website will always be optimized for dial up as computer monitors don’t offer enough detail beyond that.
But, if I don’t keep up (video), I’ll soon be dismissed by prospective clients looking for….
Please look at the site below and then scroll down to “view the video of this home” and others.
Also look at how long (5 min. or more) the videos are!!

I would like you to know that I personally know a lot of prospective clients that can afford VERY expensive homes but those people live in areas that broadband can't reach. And many of them don't want to mess with satilite internet services.
Why don't you just offer a link to your home videos with the time posted to download the video with various modem speeds. Those that want to wait for the video to load will mow the lawn and come back to view it.
