Installed IE7, now can't ue IE6 - 7/8/2006 10:33:31
I finally got around to installing IE7. But since it installs over top of IE6, I now am not able to check how my site looks in IE6. Since most of the rest of the world is still using IE6 (and will likely take a long time to catch up), I'm concerned that changes in my site might show problems in IE6 that con't show up in IE7. So how would I know? :)

Short of creating another partition on my HD (which I'd rather not do and don't have the software to do anyway), is it possible to reinstall IE6 without interfering with IE7? I'm not sure it's safe to assume that if it works in IE7, it will work in IE6, especially since IE7 is still in development and therefore subject to change. How have the rest of you gotten around this dilemma?

We haven't. MS is well known for not allowing multiple IEs to run alongside each other.

AFAIK the only one on here who has a full working installation of IE7 is Tailslide and she has it on a separate machine.

I did post a link on here somewhere about a piece of kit that's supposed to allow 6 and 7 to run together but nobody could confirm how stable it was.

Thanks Jaybee. Actually, I do have IE6 still installed on my laptop so I guess I could use that as a test machine for IE6. I forgot about that! Thanks. :)

Star -

Haven't tried it but according to MS, uninstalling IE7 will leave you with a workable IE6:

"Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, Beta 2 Preview, or Beta 1 "

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2, Beta 2 Preview, or Beta 1 and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003

Click "Start", and then click "Control Panel"
Click "Add or Remove Programs"
Scroll down to "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2" or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview", select it, and then click "Change/Remove".
If not found, check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box, scroll down the list to "Windows XP - Software Updates", select "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview" or "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1" and then click "Change/Remove".

Thanks Javal. It's not that I want to get rid of IE7 (since I want to make sure my site looks okay in it). I was just surprised and bewildered by the fact that I automatically lost IE6 by adding IE7. I'll keep your suggestion in mind though. Thanks. :)

Same as Tail I've got IE6 still on my PC (there's no way a M$ beta's getting anywhere near Diva! :)) and IE7 on my laptop.

I put it on my second hard drive ( the one with XP - I prefer Win2K for everyday stuff :)) there was no way I was putting it on my brand new laptop.

If this is any help, I have been running IE7 since the PR came out. I did have a problem on the machine and thought it was due it IE7 and I Uninstalled it. On the reboot, IE6 came up and ran fine. Now this was Beta 2 release that I did this with. I reinstalled it after finding out that was not the problem and i'm still running it. I do not see any diference between the way a site looks in IE6 and IE7 Beta II. I'm happy with it and LOVE the tabs. IMO.

Yes I agree with Fred - I uninstalled IE7 beta 2 today in preparation for downloading the Beta 3 and once Beta 2 was gone - IE6 was back.

They've still not fixed a few of the rendering bugs in the latest beta unfortunately - maybe in IE8!
