Hi and Welcome to OutFront.

I'm assuming you're using DHCP and there is only 1 DHCP server on your LAN.

Try this command first:

ipconfig /release *

then:

ipconfig /renew

If that doesn't clear the IP address lease, try unplugging from the network and rebooting. Then check the IP *without* reconnecting. You should have an IP address of 169.X.X.X and if *not* a 169 address, there is probably an issue with your IP "stack" and you should run a repair on your OS.

Hope that helps.

thanks i will try that. I have another question do you think that not having a Internal Network Card could be part of the problem? I have been running the wireless internet without it for some time about 4 to 5 months and no problems has occured so far until now.

Wireless? Well, that kinda' changes things a little.

How many users on it? Is it secure? [8|]

Generally speaking, DHCP will assign an IP address to a MAC address (not a Macintosh) and MAC addresses are supposed to be totally unique to each piece of hardware. However, there are ways of hacking this and that is a tactic used by some hackers to hide their trails.

What kind of wireless router are you using?

Brandon -> RE: ip address renewal (7/12/2006 14:14:52)

Are you sure you don't have your computer set to use a static IP address?

i_need_help! -> RE: ip address renewal (7/14/2006 6:21:33)

i am using a D-Link wireless router and do you think i should get a Wireless Network Card? it would be nessessary right?

rdouglass -> RE: ip address renewal (7/14/2006 9:24:28)

OK I guess that just lost me. I thought you said you had been running the wireless already?

Have you re-booted (power cycled) the router yet?

And as Brandon asked, you don't have a static IP do you?

Most D-link routers can be reset back to factory default settings with a paperclip. If you have any special settings you may need to keep, be sure to get them using a working computer. If you don't have any special settings, that would be one to try.

Those help any?
