The one thing I *hate* is the way the "main" page looks (main categories) in NS. If anyone knows how to correct this, I'm a giant ear!!

What are out tart candles? Just curious.

From a first impression I thought there was a big blank space toward the top between the pale yellow cells and wondered, "why are those cells there taking up space?" Then the graphic kicked in. I don't think you need a shopping cart graphic until you've started shopping. And if you have one it should be optimized. I have high speed dsl and that was the last thing to load. (after about 20 seconds) The layout looks nice enough, but I didn't go any further.

I did a few of those graphics when I didn't know much about optimization... I'll go back and tinker with them...

I does look nice and consistent from page to page.

There are a lot of folks on this forum that can give a lot better advise than me. They will get here soon and give you some good tips.

Site looks good. The only thing that bugged me is the clipart gift. You have all of the nice photos and 1 piece of clipart. I would find a nice photo of a gift to use instead.
(I just have a thing about mixing clipart and photos)

Shirley, my inability to seemingly do simple addition, as you pointed out is what made things look bad in NS. Now, all my cell widths add up, and I ditched the height issues... (I'll need to address height issues on other pages, but this one was my "main" concern.

Try removing those and see if it corrects the problem.

I would be more obvious with the prices. I'd like to see them on the web store page. I tend to leave sites that don't have the price real handy.

Some of the Williamsburg candle pictures are missing. Not sure about others.

The navigation could use a little something, too. once you start shopping, its kind of a nuisance to have to go back home everytime you want to see something different.

The overall layout is attractive. Looks like you have a great product.

PS: What was: style="margin-left: 4px" suppose to do anyhow? Should I take it out if it appears anyplace else? - Thx again.

That code was attempting to align the text to the left with a 4-pixel margin, but it is not cross-browser compatible. Because of that, it should be removed.

I'm using Netscape 4.7.

Sandy: Once again you are right. I'm going to try and align it a different way, then I'll do a search for that "bad" (style="margin-left: 4px") thing... have a look and see if it is still OK. (I'm running NS 4.08 -- looks like I'll need to update my neglected NS)

OK - I just tried to left align the text that goes with the turtle, and when I did this, it made the tart picture above, left align as well. Is there a way around this or do I have to play the cell game and divide it up into cells?

I was wondering if you folks could answer a few questions... (I know, you've already done so much...)

1) What are the real monitor resolutions that *real* people use to surf the web? I'm being told that people use 800x600, for the most part and some 1024 x whatever (don't remember)... any is this true? I mean, I've never been able to use anything other than 1280x1024, and now 1600x1200, I can't possibly see how people would really use these resolutions. But I am smart enough to know that I have to design for the masses.

2) Take a look around http://www.buyacandle.com and tell me the truth, how horrible are the pictures, specifically when you start to go into the actual categories. They look great to me when I'm in at 1024 and up, but I think they look like junk under that. Am I being overly hard on myself? Please be honest.

PS: I tried to pull up my old UserName with my email and it told me there are more than one people with that email...

Choose one of the months under Global stats, then in the right column of the page that comes up, select Resolution.

You will find that most people use 800x600, with 1024x760 coming up in second place. See for yourself where the ones you mentioned fall. I sure wouldn't worry about them.

I took another look just for the pictures, and at 800 X 600 on IE5.0, I gotta tell ya, all I need is a spoon to dive into that tart. Dang, that thing looks good.... and so are your pictures.....

2.Many of the graphics on eg guide page have white spaces around the boxed area

3. You might like to think about adding alternate text for graphics

4. Main BuyACandle.com gif has "finalwebshop.gif" showing up on mouse over.

5. Personally I find there's too much to look at on one page especially home page - perhaps special news and hot ideas need to go on their own pages.

(Heck who am I to offer advise - I'm only a novice!)
