How to add a "youtube.com" type flash player ... - 7/14/2006 15:49:31
Hi there! I'm wondering if anyone has any links to a tutorial or any experience in simply creating (on a regular web page) a flash player like the one on "youtube.com". I know you can introduce a flash video to a web page in Frontpage 2003, but it's just the "SWF" that plays automatically - no actual gui (like the add-in Windows Media Player Gui).

I want a flash player gui like the one on www.youtube.com because it shows the streaming percetage progression (how long it's gonna be before the whole video plays).

Can anyone direct me to a 'Frontpage' related lesson on how to do this with a pre-made ".swf" file?

Much appreciated!

You have to use the object and embed commands for the player, whatever that is.

The player can be anything. You Tube may have tweaked a flash version or bought something in.

Try taking a look here to see if there's something you can use.

Well, that was sort of helpful - thanks. So can anyone further the 'embedding' process to a non-coder like me? I mean I CAN code if I'm given it, but I'm not uber smart with it yet. Is this more of a a 'flash' issue or can it all be done from within Frontpage in the html coding screen and such? The software you suggested doesn't really address my issue, that I can tell. I have also tried SWISH (which sucks at video conversion from anything to .swf) and media manager 2.0 (which does nothing different than what Frontpage does when you insert a Flash file into a page).

CODE, SOFTWARE, TUTORIAL, PREVIOUS POST on this issue please....I really am obsessed now with getting this figured out. I CAN'T be this hard to get the job done...

Swish has some tools that may help you out,
I have used the regular Swish for flash animations and such but they have a tool just for creating flash movies like you are talking about.

HI there. Thanks for suggesting Swish. Tried it and yes, it does sort of do what I was hoping for it to do, but it's conversion quality (of any video type) really sucks. It's very jerky no matter how I tweak it. I have since found a couple of others to try, and try them I shall. Ultimately, I should just learn how to use Flash huh? (Sigh...)

Wouldn't simply embedding a windows media player into the page do what you are after? This gives you the controls too. Or maybe that's not what you wanted.
