sup all. ive created a hover-over type image for a website ive created but have some questions about the graphics. the url is:
www.deacro.com/HTML/complete_machine.html
first of all i would like to see how long it takes to load on some of you different machines. and secondly, is it possible to have some kind of text that says 'loading' while the images load? any other ideas on optimiztion would be appreciated as well. thanks.

Hi,

I get an error on that page - is the URL correct?

Cheers

On a 128 ISDN connection w/P41.5GHZ, 512MB RAM, IE6 it took long enough if I wasn't looking for a reason I would have not waited. Over 15 seconds.

Um...I have a modem connection, maybe you are not interested in us folk

It took almost 14 minutes to load and my connection is fast today - which I put down to the fact that most of America is sitting immobile trying to digest the turkey

This might work on a CD for demo purposes but it is not going to work on the web.

Nice job though.

I am a bit suprprised by the differnece between Gil and I.

I wonder if Gil thought it was finished when the image appeared? So did I for a moment - then I saw (19 items remaining) in my status bar and hung around for the rest. The alternate images took well more than twice as long as the main image.

I may have been a bit unfair thought cos I was downloading something at the same time as I looked. Just went back and did a Ctrl+refresh on it - 7 minutes.

It loaded in less than 3 seconds for me, but I have dsl. It looks great. Maybe you could use a link to it along with a link to a faster-loading option as well.

The only way I know of to put "loading" text before an image is to use flash or swish or something like that.

You were right Katherine - I went back and gave up at a minute - which is about four times what I would normaly wait.
