yb2 -> No power and yet... (7/18/2006 15:08:13)

I just received a laptop through the post that I have to fix. It wasn't plugged in and didn't have the battery in it, but I thought I'd press the power button anyway...

... and Hey Presto! it booted up.

I have no idea how a laptop with no obvious source of power that has been turned off since Saturday (when it was sent) managed to do that.

Perhaps it's something stupid??? It is attached to the "slice" docking station, but they take power not give it, and there's no battery in it.

Life has such power to amaze![8|]

Must have been that voodoo spell you cast on it. [:)]

I've got your picture now, so you'd better watch it! My voodoo transcends nations [:)]

It's obviously possessed. I'd suggest you get a priest in to exorcise it. [:D]

I'll do twenty pressups and run around the block - I doubt a priest could manage half that [:)]

Of course the other alternative is just to install a M$ beta on it....guaranteed to wipe out any traces of everything else! [:D]

You've missed the point - nothing to do with the Prince of Darkness ( Gates), or voodoo - it's surely a miracle. Let us know when it starts to cry, with real tears falling down the screen. [;)]

Unfortunately, it's not a miracle.

I had a poke around. It's a new model of laptop in the series, and with this one they've "hidden" an extra battery in the docking station.

Rats. I was looking forward to being high priest of the church of the batteryless laptop.

When I was at Uni we had a TV like that. Just wouldn't turn off. Unplugged it from the wall and it still kept going. Four extremely weirded out females until my rational side kicked in and I decided to take a closer look.

The guys from halls across the way had got in and rigged a separate power cable up through the bottom of the set and doctored the switch so it was permanently on.

We got them back. Went to their dorm while they were playing rugby put the plug in the wash basin, filled it with water then removed the waste pipe.
