thebigE -> database (7/22/2006 15:30:05)

How exactly do I view the information in my database? I have set up the database with results, editor, etc. I am just not sure how to get in and see the information. I know that I am supposed to do it through frontpage, but it is just not clicking in the old nogin how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

thebigE

if you are using Access then you could download the database to look at it. Or you could write a page that queries the database using SELECT statement and output that to a page or a file.

You say you have created database with results, editor, etc ?
Are you viewing these pages via a web server? eg http://

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 17:34:43)

My web host told me that for me to view, edit, send email, or whatever that I had to go through frontpage while my website was online. Nothing that I am trying to view through has http://.

Thanks

Frontpage has the capability of creating a set of management pages for your database.
The database editor pages must then be viewed online. Are you able to do that? (ie - database editor page > view in browser)

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 18:01:59)

Not that I am aware of, but that is not saying much coming from me.

Like so ?

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 18:24:32)

Yes I have done all of that and when I preview in browser all it does is show me the code.

If thats the case, then perhaps the server doesnt support asp?
Is your site open "live" ?
In frontpage, go tools > site settings. What server type is listed?

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 18:44:32)

my sit is open, and it says server version: no server currently in use.

is that what you are talking about?

E

Spooky -> RE: database (7/22/2006 18:52:19)

How do I open my web site live?
File > Open Web > Type in your url (including http://) like this http://www.url.com > Open > Enter UserID and Password.

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 18:59:12)

That has now been done, what next?

Let me go ahead and apologize now for my ignorance.

E

Spooky -> RE: database (7/22/2006 19:02:15)

Youve done that and it reveals no server version? Had you done that before?

thebigE -> RE: database (7/22/2006 19:04:25)

I have not done that before, but I do have a server version Microsoft- IIS/6.0

JackiAlaska -> RE: database (7/22/2006 23:04:01)

Gentlemen,
I was following your directions and then the discussion stopped. Can you please continue?
When I tried to open my web page live, my options after file/open were opening a file. I had no place to type in a url.
Can you please assist?

Spooky -> RE: database (7/22/2006 23:08:50)

Hi, youll use File > "Open Web" or maybe "Open Site"

thebigE - Now that your site is open, have you actually created the database management pages as per :
http://www.outfront.net/spooky/fp2002_diw.htm ?

thebigE -> RE: database (7/23/2006 14:34:05)

Now that you have graced me with your wisdom and shed light on this ignorant man, I think that I am up to speed. Now where do I go after I have opened the site and created the database management pages?

I am sorry to ask such simple questions, but I really appreciate everyones patience.

Thanks,
E

Spooky -> RE: database (7/23/2006 16:10:44)

Can you go to the database_editor folder and view the pages in your browser?

thebigE -> RE: database (7/23/2006 16:19:05)

Yes I can view the database editor in my browser, at least in my small and limited world. I am thinking that I did it correctly.

Spooky -> RE: database (7/23/2006 16:53:19)

So from thate database editor in your browser you can now add / change records?

SUCCESS! [sm=banana.gif]

thebigE -> RE: database (7/23/2006 17:03:25)

The banana makes me want to dance.

So if I enter information into my form and submit it to the database then when I enter the database editor that information will be there for me to view, edit, delete, or forward with email.
If that is so then does my submit button need to have more than this: <a href="../Truckingpage_interface">
<input type="submit" value="submit" name="B1"></a>

Thanks,
E
