FP Server Extensions problem??? - 7/25/2006 15:50:14
This is an update to a problem originally posted in the database forum a couple of weeks ago. A quick recap..I have a local server on my laptop..Server 2003..where I do my development and testing before publishing to the www. I recently encountered a problem and uninstalled and re-installed my site, FP2003 and iis. I then published my working site from the www to this local server. Now when I try to login in to the secure site I get MS JET database engine error...80004005, Unspecified error, then points to my validation.asp page line 8. If I go to an unsecured page with I get the yellow DRW error message: Unspecified error.

I have researched the MS knowledge base and tried what I found, I have tried what Spooky recommended....all to no avail.

When I open the properties for this site in iis there is no tab for Server Extensions. If I set the path to the folder that contains my site data, but not the data file itself, the Server Extension tab is there. It does not matter if the data is in the wwwroot folder or another in the same directory. The same holds true for the default site.

Server extensions are allowed. When the server extensions tab is present in the properties for the site and I check it out, all seems to be in order.

If I open MS Share Point Administration thru Admin tools all looks right for this site/virtual server if the path is to the folder. When the path is to the data in the folder, that site/virtual server can not be administered. Of course if the path is to the folder, the site cannot be accessed. If the path is to the data file in the folder the site can be accessed but not opened...the above error messages.

I have deleted the site and re-installed it. I have deleted the data and re-published it.....no change.

What am I missing? Where should I look for what? All help for this rookie is appreciated.

When you reinstall a site, usually the admin user name and password for it change. Have you checked that they are the same as before, or altered them to suit what you currently know them as?

Thanks for the input.....I'll take a look at that and see. I left my laptop/server at my office tonight so it will have to wait until tomorrow. I'll post what I find.........

I have checked and the username and password are as they should be. I have reviewed permissions wherever I could and thay are all read & write .......in fact because it is a local serve and I am the only one using it, I have allowed full control...all permission options for all users.

From what I have read in the various knowledge bases and other forums it is possibly a read/write issue someplace on this server. The site data was published to this server from the active site on the web where it all works fine?????
