Ways to accept payments??? - 7/25/2006 21:44:08
Hi,

I have a friend who lives in West Province South Africa. He has been doing local web design but was unsure how to branch out to accept work globally. He currently is a cash basis type situation. His issue is where he is living so I am unsure what to recommend to him for a payment processor. He is not looking to take payment via e-commerce, just to be able to accept electronic transactions for freelance work and site development (code for hire :)).

Take care and thank you,

Brian

First thing that comes to mind is PayPal? If they don't accept a S. Africa address, he might be able to get one in the US for a yearly fee, and signup using that.

I've only ever used paypal for international work!

Brian, why are you asking on his behalf? Did you invite him to join Outfront?

I use Paypal and Nochex but Nochex is UK only. Have you looked into this new Google payment thing. Not sure if it'll do what he needs though.

Nicole,

Being a friend I was trying to help.

I will suggest the above to him.

Any other thoughts?

Thank you,

Brian

Turns out Pay Pal is not an issue, called Pro support.

Thanks for the pointers :).

Take care,

Brian

You may want to give Google Checkout a try. The URL is https://checkout.google.com/sell

I have a feeling this is eventually going to be a universal way of paying online.

Have you used checkout?

Actually, I haven't yet, but it seems that most of Google's stuff turns to gold. It would be my first choice if I were selling products online. PayPal and I don't get along very well :)

Thanks for the re-welcome! haha. I've been working on my Site Build It site and playing a lot of WoW. Good things for a growing boy like me! =]

Ahhhh rats......

At this time, only merchants with a U.S. address and bank account can process transactions through Google Checkout.

Actually I've just been reading through the rules. It's a bit restrictive. You MUST use their buttons and at the sizes they specify and you MUST put them in certain places and they MUST be on every product.........

Hmmmm....doesn't sound like the ultimate option yet. It's still in beta though. Maybe they'll ease up on the reigns a bit.

Hope so or I'm sticking with Paypal, Nochex and Fastpay. I can use any button I want with them.

Yeah, I did check them out. I felt the same as Jaybee, too confining. I, for low end setups, always use Pay Pal Pro API, never have had an issue. Also the virtual terminal works a charm for when we get phone calls to purchase.

For a full blown setup for payments I normally go with Authorize.Net, they rock.

Good to see you back Tony :).

Take care,

Brian

I think he can only send money by creating a paypal account from south Africa, alternatively he should check with cardservice as other option.

You are correct. He is seeking to get a US address at this point. Sort of funny as I called PPP directly and talked to a new account rep. :):).

Take care,

Brian
