Google algo changes - 7/31/2006 11:20:27
For the last two weeks I got a site to rate decently in google. But then this week it fell a lot further down. Does Google change things around every couple of weeks?

I thought it made sense that I could rate decent for 'Air Specialties' since my domain name is airspecialties.com - even though the words are somewhat common. I did rate number 2 the last two weeks but now I am nowhere to be seen.

And on top of that there is a site that is linking to me that is rated number 2. That entire page is just a description of my site and a link to my site. Why in the world would you rate something with a brief summary and link over the site itself? Is this a test algo that hopefully will go away? Am I being penalized because I started checking on how many pages were indexed and how many links they showed way too often?

Don't panic!
And don't do anything hasty...

The algo seems to be trying to weed out the garbage sites (MFA's, scrapers, etc)

I've noticed that most of my sites disappeared like yours, 100+ results deep. A ton of scrapers and MFA sites emerged at the top of the SERPs.

I believe that certain sites have been moved deep into the results in order to not be effected by the spam hunt. Most of my sites returned "better" than they were once G had been thru their specific sectors.

Every site so far has returned to better placement than it was before the algo change.

Scrapers, MFA's beware...google has you in the cross hairs..

Hope that helps some...
Tera

You're right, it came back. Not better but pretty much the same. It was only for a few days. I probably wouldn't even have noticed if I wasn't keeping a closer eye on it lately.

I was just worried because I am just starting to get some traffic and google was becoming significant percentage of the low traffic I currently have.

Nevermind, I am just going to stop paying attention for awhile because Google switched back again this morning.

I think Google is just messing with me.

Google has multiple data centers. You may also be seeing changes promoted to those DCs. Around 7/27 there seemed to be a little ripple.

Take care,

Brian
