Question about a 'forms" page - 8/5/2006 13:18:37
First off, I'm not sure if this is called a form page or not, but it was the only term I knew to call it.

I'm trying to create a page like this (see link below) with the boxes to enter name, address, etc and also the yes-no boxes? How do I do that in FP?

Yes Johnnie that is a Form.......You can achieve that in FP by clicking on INSERT>>FORM and then choose Form.....you should get a dashed box with two buttons in it......then you can choose different fields to insert into the box such as text boxes, dropdowns, checkboxes etc by going and clicking on INSERT>>FORM and choosing what you want.

Just make sure everything goes inside of the dashed box

Hi Johnnie,

Follow Swoosh's directions. If you need help with the basics of FrontPage forms, stop by my site or look through the tutorials section here at OutFront.

I'm getting the information "boxes" online, but they don't look like they're completely lined up straight and they're very plain looking. I'll see if I can figure out a way to add some color. Here's the link if you want to let me know if it looks right.

I think I'll stop adding forms until I better understand this. My fields indicate 20 characters for every 'box', but they view as different lengths. I'm having to 'manually' move the boxes where information goes to get them lined up even and if you look close they're not. I understand the concept of this, but I'm not doing something right. Hopefully somebody will tell me what's causing the problems with the things I've mentioned. Thanks.

Make a two column Table that goes into the dashed form box. That way you can put your labels in the first column and your field boxes etc in the second column.

Things will line up very nicely then.

I don't have a 'submit' and 'clear' button. Can I add it now or do I have to completely start over? I just realized this.

No reason to start over. You can add the submit and clear button by going up to Insert and Form, choose "push button".......then double click on the button to set its properties.

I finally got it! Now, can I make certain fields required?

Also, I can check both the yes and no box. Why is that?

Double click the field and select Validate to set this up. See Here.

The Yes/No would use radio buttons. The must have the same name to be the same group. Click Here for more.

I'll bookmark it. I've read parts of it already.

I'm working with my check box properties now. Do I have to give every one of them a name? I did one set to see if I was doing it right. It still lets me check both the 'yes' and 'no' box which I was hoping to avoid. The instructions say that if the check box has not been selected, neither the name nor the value are returned. When I don't select 'no' it still returns the name but doesn't include a value. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right or not.

Use option buttons instead of checkboxes Johnnie. Option buttons are for one selection only and will not allow the user to select more than one.

Just remember to give each "SET" a different group name within their own category. Another words, each cateorgy of opton buttons should have the same group name.

Does that make sense?

On my confirmation form it shows things like V1, V3, V4, V6, etc. Should it show up that way? I have the button groups working now.

Will the 'confirmation' form be what's sent to the address I choose? It's not real easy to understand now.

Hi Johnnie,

FP labels them automatically. You can rename them by double clicking the field. Generally recommended to use lower case e.g. email rather then Email.

Be sure to use underscore between words if you wish them separated.

You can set the form for email use site mail e.g. webmaster@yourdomain.com

More on form properties Here.

It will email you and send to optional file. You could send to database as well. It will display a default confirmation page or custom if you create one.

Once you get a form published to the web, give us the URL for the form page if you have problems.

Swooosh,

Thanks for that!
