what to buy? emachine vs Dell - 8/6/2006 12:48:50
Hello all, I'm new here so be nice !!! I haven't kept up with computer technology basically because at my job I use a PC, but just make a phone call when it don't work. My wife has a HP PC that has served her well for 5 years. It has now bit the dust. Here basic use is internet and Word Processing. She plans to do some photo edit type stuff. But, 90% will be internet. Her big complaint while she had the HP was "it's too noisy". Our one son has a Dell and says it's whisper quiet. So... it's kind of narrowed down to a Dell E310, possible E510 depending on what's on sale, or emachine T6534 that is quite a bit less expensive. Were talking about $750 for the Dell equipped like we want compared to about $500 emachine. I think the only add on for the emachine would be another 512 mem. card to take us up to a gig.
Any comments? My wife asks my opinion and I'm not sure. Like I said at work I take what they give me (Dell Optiplex GX270 right now) and just use it.
Any help would be great. Thanks !! The new guy, boilerman

Normally it will depend on the specs/hardware/support. Dell's support sucks, but I don't know if emachine's support is any better. I would save the $250 and go with the emachine branded computer, since you say they are the same config.

This Dell coupon: VK4KM6JK37GF2V will save you $350 on $999+ for the following evalue codes: DE510SAP, DE51F2, DE51F4, DE510RF1

Don't buy a emachine! I know they have a lot of problems.

Why don't you find a local guy who will build you a machine to the same spec. It should be cheaper, you will probably get a better machine and if you need service they are nearby.

Thanks for the input. Any other comments would be good. Anybody have the machines in question? Like it? Hate it?

I own an Emachine computer and an HP machine, both equipped almost identical. I can say that I did have a problem with the Emachine, but their tech support was outstanding - answered the phone within seconds, not minutes. Pays the shipping both ways if you have to send the machine back, will even ship you an empty box if necessary, free of charge.

I would have no qualms about buying another Emachine. (Bought the HP because I got a great deal on it.)

Once again, thanks for the input. At this point it looks like the wife is leaning toward the Dell. Both of my sons are not crazy about emachine and they are letting their Mom know they like Dell. At this point it looks like the E310. So thanks again and if anyone has any E310 comments, please reply
