TomB -> "View Source" problem - very strange!! (8/7/2006 20:36:30)

I use Windows XP SP-2. I have come across what is probably the weirdest behavior that I have seen in a computer. I am a part-time web developer. I was asked to add the Babel-Fish language translation service to a couple of pages on a website that I had built earlier. I went to the Babel-Fish site, copied the necessary code, and pasted it into the customer's website. Everything appears to work fine. Here is the problem. Ever since I copied that code and pasted it into that web page, when I do a view-source of any website anywhere (even this one), on any browser, using any text editor, that piece of code from Babel-Fish appears in the code that I see. It appears whether I view the code by right-clicking and selecting "view source," if I view it by way of the menu, or even if I view it using the Web Developer bar for Firefox. It does not matter what website I choose to view the code from or what browser I choose, that Babel-Fish code shows up in the code that I see. It is obviously not being added to the actual code on the server. It just appears in the code that I see on my computer. When I ftp into a site that I have access to, the piece of code is not there, and rightfully so. Yet, it will appear when I view the code from a browser. I have gone to the clipboard and made sure it is emptied. In fact, I can copy and paste anything I want without a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled my text editor. I have rebooted. I have emptied temporary files and temporary internet files. I have done everything I can think of and still...that code shows up. Does anyone have any idea where I can go to empty whatever Windows file is holding that piece of code? (I believe it to be a problem with whatever file in Windows that allows website code to be viewed.) For what it's worth, the code was inserted using FrontPage 2000 (which I am phasing out). Thanks in advance for any input at all. Tom B.
