ok friends -- here's my first draft of the menu in EWD with stu's CSS.

before i go any further i need some eyes and wisdom.

It does look like the v2 of the ultimate menu and has a fair number of warnings when validating. Most of them are for unclosed tags, so you need to validate the xhtml first.

Errr good point Carol.

<a href="../menu/form.html" title="Special Needs Adoption">
Special Needs Adoption</a></li>

for example is missing the red bit.

If you're using Stu's code TJ make sure you don't accidentally lose bits.

caz and jaybee -
yes, it's the ultimate, v2 menu. i really like it and am determined to get it published!

great suggestion, caz, but where's that site that let's me check ???

jaybee, i saw your other post and thanks for your words of encouragement. it reminds me that, while we're all here to help, we're all REALLY basically on our own ...

thanks!

swoosh, still working on fixing IE 6 problems.

does anyone have a solution to checking in IE 6 AND 7? i have IE 7 beta 3, but it wouldn't let me install 6.0 again -- guess you can't have BOTH versions on one system???

Seventh posted a site that will allow you to view screenshots of your pages in various broswers and versions plus different resolutions

this site is lots of fun for us newbies ... what a thrill to, one by one, correct the errors they stipulate -- and after each correction, go back and REVALIDATE.
the number of errors is dwindling!!!
thanks. just have to share this beginners' joy.

Byte-Order Mark found in UTF-8 File. The Unicode Byte-Order Mark (BOM) in UTF-8 encoded files is known to cause problems for some text editors and older browsers. You may want to consider avoiding its use until it is better supported.

so what's THIS mean??

RE: First Look - 8/11/2006 19:19:11
For help with validating your code I would suggest that you use the Web Developer extension with Firefox ( you really should develop for Firefox and then tweek for everything else :)). The HTML Tidy in that will help with your UTF problem and lots of others. As for checking what it looks like in other browsers then lots of people use BrowserCam with a 24hr trial at http://www.browsercam.com. Bear in mind that these are just screenshots.

You can run various standalone versions of IE on your machine, information here, but you may have to register to access this now. You may have better luck with this approach.

Someone else may know what BOM is, cos I don't. :)

As this is the fist look post.

I have just downloaded EWD and the only thing I can say is WOW.
Its fantastic. Very similar to but nothing like FrontPage if that makes any sense. :)

The only problem now is waiting for the official release date.

Hurry up MS…. For goodness sake. :)

Caz
Is that the undercarriage of the beautiful Concorde you are standing next to in your profile page???

Its obviously parked at the museum. Don’t think you would have got that close if she was in service! :)

That is indeed Alpha Charlie, flagship of the fleet, now based at Manchester Airport. :)

In Netscape your menu(s) open up instead of down and does not render correctly when that happens.

Looks great. It was a sad day when they retired. They will never make an aircraft like that again now that the A380 is coming in to service soon.

Your menu still doesn't work in Netscape. In fact it is worse than before.

hey swoosh!
thanks for jumping in.
no - just the 7.0 beta version ...
i've submitted to browsershots.org and am waiting for it now ...
what gives?

i know the code included statements such as "IF IE 6" and "IF IE 7" ... maybe there's something screwed up there.
yesterday was a HUGE acheivement for me, so i think i have enough self confidence to try and tackle this.

thanks swoosh.
