EWD and Sharepoint Designer - 8/11/2006 17:55:41
Totally confused here. We made the leap off of FPSE 2002 to WSS and are enjoying the WSS features. When I try to open a WSS site with EWD I get a message stating that you cannot use EWD on a Sharepoint site. It's probably a beta thing but when you click file/new/web site, one of the available choices is Sharepoint Templates, whcih upon choosing them you are told that you must be connected to a server with WSS. Hmmm. Okay, so I'll try Sharepoint Designer, which comes in the Office 2007 beta. Whaddya know, it's actually EWD but you can work on Sharepoint sites with it. Again, I'll attribute this weirdness to being beta versions. From what I can see the two products are exactly the same, which leads me to wonder what is the point of having two. Anyone have any insight in to this? Thanks.

I have been confused about that also. I was under the impression that Sharepoint Designer would have a few features in it that EWD does not have. Not so? t

Thanks, Thomas. Other than the fact that you can open WSS sites with SD I haven't seen any significant difference. The existence of the option to use a Sharepoint template in EWD leads me to believe that the final will have teh capability to create/maintain both WSS and non-WSS sites, as FP2003 does now. But, then again, I could be completely wrong on that.
