Can't log into live site? - 8/12/2006 9:13:02
Hello all, Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong forum but here goes...From time to time I make small changes to my site by going to the url with IE and then clicking the "Edit with FrontPage" button. When I do this I am usually prompted to enter my password. I then go ahead and make my changes and save them. Yesterday I did this and while I was there I decided to free up some space and deleted some images that were not linked to anything. I'm not sure nor do I see how this could have caused a problem but now when I go to my site and click the "Edit with FrontPage" button I don't get the option to log in. So effectively I can't get to the site using FP to edit it. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks much for any help or advice. Gary P.S. the site is www.edmontonweddingphotographer.com

No experienced member of this Forum is a proponent of editing "live", so your problem may well be a blessing in disguise. Do it the right way: Make changes locally then >>File>>Publish Site. If you insist in making changes to the Server files without first altering local files, then (after above) select "Open Your Remote Web Site in FrontPage" and go from there.

Thanks for that info. I will definitely change the way I edit the site. Meanwhile, Tech support at my host uninstalled and reinstalled the extensions. Now I am getting the password prompt but it won't get me into the site. At any rate, I got this message from them via e-mail and I suspect that is also what might be preventing me from logging in: "...The frontpage extensions have been re-installed on this domain with the original domain password. However, it should be noted that this page is over 500 Mb in size, much larger than the Frontpage software was ever meant to load. The customer may wish to create some subwebs to help manage this more effectively in the future." This is because, in addition to the site that is viewable by the public, there are a lot of images contained in customers "albums" that are also being stored there. Assuming I am going to stay with FP for the time being, how would I create the "subwebs" they recommend? Gary
