omac -> Time for critics (8/12/2006 16:31:34)

Hello all,

If anybody got time, my site could use some tips please. I've put this together over the last 5 years or so so at the moment every page is slightly different!!!

I've tried to import into fronpage but FP only imports a couple of folders so i've left to edit each page at a time.

With an html page for each of my 3d images (over 600 pages) i would like an easier way of editing..

AlexPensotti

thanks.
Alex

you need to change your link on your Wecome page to .... http://www.alexpensotti.com/indexa.html

The one you are using is ......... file:///F:/Documents and Settings/Omac/My Documents/My Webs/Omac's Website/indexa.html .... and you will be the only one that can see anything from that link as it go to your computer.

omac -> RE: Time for critics (8/13/2006 5:29:19)

Probably getting cached by your browser (or ocassionally ISP). I just tried it again after trying last night and got the F drive again at first. Either clearing your cache or refreshing (Ctrl + R) usually clears up the problem.

It's looks OK, just a little off-aligned. The alignment and positioning could be a little more even so it doesn't look scattered. But just a little (I'm picky).

You would be better off using CSS for your styles. Because of tables and font tags your website's code is huge compared to what you could do with CSS. It's also more clumsy to update.

The body text font changes on every page. Why not keep the same font, like that Century Gothic? That would make the website more consistent. Also Batang isn't looking good on a website.

CSS would easily solve all these problems.

Nice looking site - you've got some nice pics on there. It's nice and easy to read and cleanly laid out. Personally, I'd centre the site, or centre it with borders at each side, perhaps with a different coloured background behind the site. A couple of things that stand out instantly, or rather don't stand out instantly in the case of the first one - your site navigation should be easily to find, and though it's right up there, it's not very prominent.

The other thing is those white highlights on some of the words on the index page - ditch them. I wasn't sure why they were highlighted, and it makes the page look a little untidy.

Rather than loading each new image into a new html page, you probably need to look into some sort of image gallery script which would make managing and maintaining them a lot easier. The Lightbox JS is a nice one, but you need to be familiar with code and CSS to use it and with 600+ images may still be hard work, but there are loads of plug 'n' play type ones on sites like Dynamic Drive and Hotscripts.com - some use databases to store the images, others pick up images from within folders to display them in galleries. If you google for something like 'image galleries' you'll find loads of examples.

Oh, and btw, the webring links at the foot of the page don't work either.

thanks Womble!

Must agree with Womble about the highlights they do nothing for the the page and would look better without it also argees with about the navigation . Some nice Bryce work BTW .
