Can't connect to server anymore - 8/13/2006 15:24:15
Last week I got HughesNet(DirectWay), which uses satellite for Internet connection, because I was tired of slow dial-up(which is still usable). I can't connect to server now for any of multiple sites, but still don't have a bit of problem using dial-up. I thought maybe it might be some setting on machine I'm using (Norton antivirus), but same scenario is true using laptop which uses Grisoft for antivirus. Both machines will connect using dial-up, and neither will connect using satellite. I'm considering keeping dialup just so I can continue using FrontPage, but hate to spend extra money every month if I don't have to.

My first guess would be your direcway connection has you behind a firewall that is preventing you from connecting to your live site via Frontpage

However, it might be a DNS issue with your ISP. Does the page load when you enter the URL (in internet explorer or another browser) on the comptuer that can't publish? If it does not, I'd like to see what a traceroute report shows. To run a traceroute, click "Start" > "Run" > Type "cmd /k tracert example.com > c:\tracert.txt" (without quotes, replace example.com with your domain) and hit enter. A black window will open, and then close when it is finished. After the window closes, go to c:\tracert.txt and upload the .txt file somewhere, or paste the contents here. Your IP will appear in the first couple lines of the txt file, you can simply delete these lines.

Thanks for replying - I really don't want to spend extra money if I don't have to! I don't have a bit of trouble viewing any of these sites in a browser. I can also connect to them using FTP. I just can't connect using Front Page. I personally think there is a firewall in the modem DirectWay provided that might be blocking the port that Front Page uses - I just don't know how Front Page works in making the connection.

What is the site we are talking about here?

Me too! Can't publish using FrontPage since installed hughesnet satelite and wireless router. Have ruled out the wireless internal card, ruled out the router, ruled out the firewall in the router, ruled out the windows xp firewall, ruled out the modem, ruled out Hughesnet satelite, ..... Called Ipowerweb where my website has been hosted for almost 2 years... but they said it must be FrontPage.... So here I am... Same issue .... I can publish in Frontpage if I use their "FTP". But get the same 4) error messages about the server, frontpage ext, etc.. when I try to publish using FrontPage to a "remote web site". If I log back on with landline (phone) using peoplepc, it works just fine! Back to the satelite, either hooked up with cable to the modem directly, or using the wireless, it stops working. Only the FTP works not the front page. Has anyone figured this out? I am stumped... and I too have spent a bundle and all the server people said, was maybe I should go buy a different software development tool. Before I spend any more dollars, I am hoping there may be some way of tweeking MSFP. I did download and installed all updates for both office 2003 and frontpage 2003... also downloaded IE 7.0..... nothing has worked.... any ideas? My head is throbbing... time for an asprin!
