Outlook rule to act on a blank From or Subject - 8/13/2006 22:52:14
I know how to set a rule that will detect and move to another folder a mail with a specific name in the From field or a particular word in the Subject field. No problem. But how do I detect and move a message that has a blank field? I'd like to move into my spam folder any message that has a blank "From" field. Likewise, I'd like to move into my suspect folder any message that has a blank "Subject" field. I'm using Outlook 2003. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Andrew

Outlook doesn't filter for "blanks" or "nothing", but here seems to be a nifty little workaournd http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2004/20041018.htm

Great! I just can't do blank name fields, but this knocks off about 75 percent of the problem e-mail. I'd thought about using "a, e, i, o, or u" in some fashion, but never thought about clicking past the first rule without defining it first. I'd completely forgotten it could be done - OUCH, does this mean I'm only thinking "within the box" anymore? Watch out kids - it all starts slipping fast at 50. But the vowel strategy brings back an old memory. When I was in grammar school, we were taught that the vowels were, "A, E, I, O, U, sometimes Y, and sometimes W". Does anyone know when "W" is a vowel? (Hint: Scrabble players will have an edge on this.) Thanks again! Andrew
