Hi guys

just a quick question: does EWD overwrite FP 2003 or is it a separate progrm altogether? If I want to uninstall it, will it kill my FP 2003 also or will FP remain intact?

Yes I have downloaded and played with it. I'm very impressed with it........interface is kinda like Dreamweaver. From what I can see it packs a pretty nice punch so far. Much improved over FP

Here's my quirky experience with EWD. My first venture was to install it on an XP Pro laptop. The install went fine but I quickly realized that I could not see FP, the icon in my Quick Launch tray disappeared. Not to worry as I use the laptop for play. Haven't gone searching for FP on it to find out if it is still there and working.

Last Friday I installed EWD on my brand spankin' new development desktop (XP Pro, VS 2005, SQL 2005, etc.) I immediately checked to see what happened to FP, if anything. I was happy to see that FP was still there and I could open it. However, this morning when I went to edit a page in FP, it bombed out on me upon save. I genereated the error report and tried again. Same thing. Then I opened the same site and page in EWD and, upon save, EWD bombed out. The error report stated that this was a known bug and will be fixed in the next beta version.

Uninstalling EWD did not solve te problem, had to perform a system restore to the day before I installed EWD in order to be able to save an htm page with FP2003 again.

I have had no problems with EWD and FrontPage, but your post is very important as to others who may have the same question as Mango did prior to downloading.

Hey Mango!!!!!!!!!! guess what.........LOL

That's Beta for ya....hope you don't run into that

Very odd. I have EWD and FP2003 both running happily together on XP Pro. The only thing that has caused me any problems happened today when I poured a cup of coffee into my keyboard but I don't think I can blame MS for that.

Carmen my dear, EWD leaves FP standing. Definitely worth a play.

Hey guys

thanks for the feedback. I am still wondering how it will perform. I will install it in a PC with XP Pro and take it from there.

Now, I would like to hear from the operational side of it. Any advantage over FP 2003? Does it simplify any finction or is it mostly eye candy?

And talking about eye candy, please spread the word to Conforming,Compliant and Cute that I'm showing leg!

One last question, is it really necessary to register with M$ or makes no difference?

Not sure about registration but I was under the impression that if you didn't you wouldn't get the download.

As for EWD and improvements, no it's not just eye candy. It produces pretty much valid, compliant code. Tableless layout, talks to css properly. No evil bots.

HERE is a demo I uploaded which was just an out of the box EWD template. I haven't touched it at all. Run it through the validators and take a look at the code behind the page.
