So NOW what to do with this file??? - 8/15/2006 16:46:57
ok, so i have created my menu at www.sunnyridge.org/default.htm

i'm pleased with it -- but now am unsure of HOW to use it.
1. i KNOW i want it to be available on every page.
2. i KNOW i want all page links in the SUB menus to have the entire SUBMENU on the left side, when a visitor arrives at a sub page.

how would i best use this page in EWD??
thanks.

WELL DONE!!!! :)

You make your header one page (without all the header information in the code)

You make your menu another page (again without all the header info in the code)

Then you go to the top of this page and click the Tutorials/FAQ button in the menu bar at the very top and you look for a couple of tutorials on using INCLUDES.

They're written for FP but the principal is the same.

Entirely up to you. If you think you might want to change one more than the other then yes, or you can put them both together as they sit across the top.

If it was a vertical menu for the side then definitely split them.

You may also want to check out the info on Dynamic Web Templates at the url below.

http://www.outfront.net/tutorials_02/fp_techniques/dwt-1.htm

EWD supports DWT's.

Just to add to Thomas's post, the original two part article I extended and made into a free ebook for those that are interested.

http://frontpage-ebooks.com/dwt-ebook.htm

I always recommed using fp includes (which don't need fpse they work with or without) for side menus, they give you so much more control. Just put a blank include into the dwt for the menu section and make it an editable area, then you can swap it out on which ever page your on, i've done this to great effect at all my sites but it's easiest to see at http://addonpfp.com the left menu is all text and done with includes ... click through the menu and you see it changing from page to page.
