DWT File - 8/17/2006 10:30:02
When I update the master.dwt file it doesn't update the attached files unless they are open (in design view). Why is that, it seems to defeat the purpose. Then even when ALL the attached files are open (in the design view), I still have to save all after updating the master.dwt.

Any insight would be helpful. Maybe I'm missing something.

dwt's won't update on the server. You need to be editing locally for that. If you are editing locally then the only thing I can think of is that maybe you need to do the following.

Site > Site Settings > Check "Manage site using metadata files."

I agree with Thomas it sounds like your working live on the server.

The reason they need saving again if you update the dwt with the files open is that when you save the dwt your changing the files they are attached to in changing something it then needs to be saved, if the files were closed all this is done automatically. Publish your site to your hard drive ... work on it there then publish to the server. It's not safe to work online only.. at the very least make a backup.
