.Org, .Info, .Biz - Major pricing policy change; Public... - 8/27/2006 10:25:12
ICANN is proposing to remove price controls on the .Org, .Info and .Biz gTLDs.

In other words "variable pricing" by domain is now allowed, such as .TV pricing. For example: Doll.tv annual fee $1,000; Webmaster.tv annual fee $5,000.

A detailed review and discussion of the issues: http://www.webmasterworld.com/domain_names/3059492.htm

If you are at all concerned about how much you will have to pay for domain renewals in the future then please post your comments with ICANN here:

http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-2-28jul06.htm

This is a HUGE issue and yet, the manner in which ICANN has been handling it has enabled the issue to stay below radar.

It's your pocketbook and your website addresses that will be effected - seriously - if this goes through. IF .Org and .Info can be subjected to this new pricing policy .Com will follow. Why? Because if the model is valid for the non-profit sector it most definately will be valid for the commercial sector. It's only a matter of when the next .Com registry agreement comes up for renewal.
