parked domain for second site, does it hurt PR - 8/28/2006 10:29:56
With my web host if you have more than one domain, puts in the second one are a "parked subdomain" as they describ it.

for egsample my main site is www.megabuff.com and my second site is www.bodiorganic.com, but it is actully setup as bodiorganic/megabuff.com but its parked and you just see it as a normal site.

when i asked why they do it like that and why cant i just have the second site like normal they said that wold cost more. as it is you can have multple domains for the price of one.

here is some correspondanse from them on this matter

question:
> why is it that extra sites have to be a parked domain?

answer:
costs involve.

question:
>
> In what way would it be a greater expense for you to have a second domain on your server?
>

answer:
the added support we must provide due to the additonal domain being added to an account. Script installation, upload questions, publishing quesitons email questions, service is our added expense.

Not sure what you are getting at.

If you want a second site, then yes I would charge you for the space.

If all you want is a sub-domain, then no I would not charge more for the space.

You stated:

quote:

for example my main site is www.megabuff.com and my second site is www.bodiorganic.com, but it is actually setup as bodiorganic/megabuff.com but its parked and you just see it as a normal site.

Which tells me you have two top level domains but yet it is setup as a sub domain.

So if you wanted www.megabuff.com and www.bodiorganic.com, as it reads here. Then that is two domains and you should be charged twice.

But if you wanted www.megabuff.com to also have bodiorganic.megabuff.com, that would be a sub domain and should not have a host charge IMHO.

So which did you want?????

Take care,

Brian

I have never heard of charging for a subdomain.

$25 a month seems a lot for such a poor service. I pay $35 a month for a whole lot more which is only $10 more .. I'm not a reseller but have a reseller account so I can host all my domains (around 20).

Yes it WILL hurt your seo ranking to some extent. The domain is not parked it's in use as a subdomain of your main site. I see a site there with different content which is a good job or that really would hurt your seo.

Get a host that allows you host multiple domains properly no subdomains or even subwebs.

I don't know what else you require for your hosting or what kind of server... on my account I can have both at matrixresellers.com I like them and I've been with them around four years. Or have two hosting accounts with Thomas and get a lot more help besides. http://www.outfront.net/hosting/outfront_hosting.asp

Whatever you do .. I'd seriously take a second look at your hosting.

hth Tina
