Mac, IE Safari help please - 9/9/2006 17:58:57

Can someone with a mac operating system view this for me? Also, I need to know how it looks in IE mac and safari. Apparently it is ok in FF for that os.

And any help along the way with what is going on would be appreciated.

Information back from client:
safari version:2.0.4
IE mac version: 5.2.3

Don't have a Mac Deb, but I'm assuming you've seen a screenshot using this link?

Even better, I have a screen print from clients mac on what is going on. I would have to size them to get them up for viewing.

Deb,

No expert here as you know, but if you use the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar and select to "out;ine block level elements", you'll see that the gallery is overlapping the menu.

I have been using it and have not noticed that but will take a look again at it.

Plus I use screen capers for measuring when I go along with things on here to make sure things measure correctly.

Something changed and I am not sure what it is. It validates on both css and on xhtml strict.

I have a few warnings, but they dont' interfer with what is going on right now. When I get this fixed I'll fix the color warnings.

<edit> On my pc I am not getting any over measure with the outline in firefox. so that is ok</edit>
<edit2> On my pc I am not getting any over measure with the outline on IE either.</edit>

It looks very similar to the problem I had where the content was dropping below the menu on my site in IE when the text was resized. I see you have the font-size: 100.01% in your css though.

I'm not sure Deb.

This is what I get at a few levels up on my increase in font sizing on the page:

As you can see the outlines are on the background images on the sides as well as the other divs that are on the page and the block level elements.

Definitely got an overlap between the main content and the sidebar in FF on the PC which may well be causing your problem.

It's an issue in Safari and Opera Mac and Opera 9 on PC too. Camino Mac looks fine.

I don't have IE 5.2 Mac (don't deliberately try to support it these days) I wouldn't worry too much about IE Mac - it has some odd float issues which may or may not cause you problems. Possibly sorting out the overlap will solve the issue there too.

Also - in Opera Mac the serif font that you get for the navigation is really hard to read - not sure what it is though.

Hi Tailslide,
I have to worry about the browsers as they are on the clients mac. So to him they need to be worked out. Others are of your opinon in regards sigh.

Worked at it for a bit.

Not sure what to do.

I explained about the font when he picked out what he did for the fonts. That is why there is such a large choice of them, trying to hit ones that will work

deb not sure how far on you are with this but could help noticing that the logo looked a bit jaggy - hard to avoid with that kind of oval - but here are a couple you can try if you would like.

sorry in advance if you already planned to do something with the logo anyway ;)

Hi Dave, yeah I know, I had to change the color on it and then get the background transparent on it. Had a bit of a difficulty getting it to smooth out for me, thanks for the ones you have here I"ll definatly take a look at them all. Kudos!

Ah clients! Life would be sooo much easier without them!:)

All I can suggest is to sort out the overlap by reducing the size of the main content area and then see how you go. If there are still problems with IE mac then they should be slightly easier to sort out.

If you add the totals, there is no overhang as you can see by what I posted with an increase in font, plus I use screen capers to measure.

Already decreased and it did not do anything except for move the border away from where it is right now.

So its back to the size it should be, and the additions add up to what it should be. I have outlined it in IE's developer tool bar, even outlined the floats, and all were and still are within their boundries on my pc.

It Works on IE6 and on FF on windows, all validates, what needs to work is Safari for mac, and IE 5 for mac.

RE: Mac, IE Safari help please - 9/10/2006 9:21:29
You've got some of the sublists (ul ul ) growing wider than they should be which might be enough to cause the drop.

Stick a width of around 150px (to allow for the added left hand indent you've got and still fit into the 158px sidebar width) onto the ul uls and that solves it for me locally on Safari Mac and Opera PC. I don't have IE5.2 Mac on my iBook so I can't check for it. But with luck that might solve the issue there too.

Edit: And also - remove the clearfix on the div called "rightcolumnartist"

ul ul should not even be there right now? I removed it last night? Unless it did not refresh up to the server? IEEEEEeeee (and that doesn't stand for IE either!:))

What I am doing right now is trouble shooting it. Going through and removing code styles and replacing to find out what is going on.

One suggestion from cssd list was to remove height on the header, which is why the font sizing wasn't increasing correctly. Since the header had a background image in it, I had placed a height on it, might even have something to do with the footer as well? Hmm. thought process there.

I'll repost as I go along, and thanks, btw what you might be seeing as an over flow when you outline is that the border is a repeating image for the side effect being the same as the header and footer edging.

Thanks Jaybee, never reinstalled that after I formated recently, have to install as I always check that one as well.

Like I said take code away and add. That is how you try to find and isolate the bugs. sigh.

Just checked the latest version in Camino and it looks OK but in Safari it's identical to thePC Opera shot I posted earlier. Can't do a screenshot as I don't have the software on the iBook yet, or at least I don't think I have. Not worked out what half this Mac stuff does yet.

Jaybee, sent you a pm, I'm putting this mentally on hold, the thread that is for now, then when I get it fixed I'll post the things that were going on

Ok, like I said I would work on the code, lol.

Where was the grab thingie at? from? Can you post a link to it?

I know there is one site that used to be free, but now you need a membership for it, sigh.

Thanks for the screen shot am going to view it now.

I'm hoping with the changes that I did that this will work now?

Grab is part of Mac OSX Tiger. It installs with the OpSys. Don't think you can get it separately.
