alpalino -> Still No backlinks from google (9/12/2006 21:22:58)

Hi all

This is my first post in this forum. My question is about google. My site has been up for more than 1 month. When I check my back links I can't see BL from google. However, I can see from MSN and Altavista. Why is that

Brandon -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/12/2006 21:45:17)

Give it time...Do you know if google has crawled your site yet?

thatguy -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/13/2006 8:33:12)

Google never shows all the backlinks they know about. I don't know how they decide which ones to show (only ones with a high enough page rank?) but you'll most likely show well into the hundreds on other engines before Google will show any at all.

If you try ::www.yoursite.com instead of link:www.yoursite.com that might let you see some. It lets you see any page with the actual text of your URL which is usually a link.

How do i know if my site is crawled or not?

jaybee -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 4:32:40)

CHeck your site logs on your host, you'll be able to see if Google, MSN et al have crawled and when. Assuming your host supplies decent logs that is.

tinaalice -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 11:57:13)

It depends on the SEO quality of your site, without seeing it we would be guessing as to why Google has not visited.

Do you have actual content or just flash js and graphics? do you use frames? Are you using black hat tricks? Is your site dynamic?

Or do you have at least 1000 words of actual content? Do you use heading tags? Do you use dash spaced, lower case file names? How is your word dentisty? Do you have title and decription and keyword metas? Do they reflect the content? Is this done for every page? Are you using a doctype and does it vaidate for html and css? Have you done alts on all your graphics? Do you have an anchor rich text based menu available?

There are 101 different parts of the puzzle, all of them together make a difference, read the google guidelines as to how to seo your site...

So what's your link?

I can put a site up and it's crawled without me submitting anything within four days, even if I don't link to my very oldest site to boost it.

It sounds like you are doing something or other that google does not like.

thatguy -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 13:37:46)

Another way to check if it has been crawled - if you have trouble with the stats - is just type site:www.yoursite.com into the search engine. It isn't as definitive as the web stats but odds are if they crawled they at least indexed one of the pages.

But don't bother checking your number of backlinks on Google because they never show you every one they know about. Even once you start showing some on Google they know about far more than that.

coreybryant -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 16:52:02)

Reciprocal Links (Update) might help out some as well. Sometimes it just takes time and patience.

MikeHanlon -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 17:31:10)

Check out http://www.google.com/webmasters/ -- There's lots of good stuff there. To see when (if) your site was crawled, click on "Site Status Wizard," enter your site's URL and Google will tell you.

One of my keywords are in no1 pos. in google, and thanks to thatguy, I found some backlinks from google. So that mean my site is crawled by google right?

womble -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/14/2006 18:43:28)

Not quite sure that I understand what you're saying, and I'm certainly no expert in SEO, but if you're meaning that one of your keywords is ranked the most popular, then there's going to be an awful lot of competition for getting ranked highly on that keyword, so it's going to be difficult to get a decent ranking with.

Bear in mind that even if Google's crawled your site, and it sounds like it has, it can take months to get a decent ranking, and there are so many variables that can affect your ranking, as Tinaalice said, that even doing all the "right" things it can be incredibly difficult to get ranked highly.

alpalino -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 9:09:24)

Yes it is.

tinaalice -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 9:20:05)

Well I'm confused, why ask for help about SEO and Google when that's what your site is about?

Tina

womble -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 9:47:12)

Hmmmm, me smelleth spam! [:@]

alpalino -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 13:42:24)

So just because I have a blog about seo that doesn't mean i can't ask question about seo or google. Also, I am not claiming to be expert.

Reflect -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 14:45:10)

But of course you can. It seems that the question you are asking is low level type. That is what made this stand out IMHO.

By starting an SEO site you are sort of making that claim, again IMHO.

No offense, we all have to learn.

This one gets me though:

tinaalice -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 17:50:30)

He did not leave his sig line I found it on his profile.. however I think this more a matter of picking of brains for content!

He's free to do this and I'm free to think what I think about his motives!

If your a white hat SEO stand up and give your site url, declare yourself, we don't mind you don't know the answers, we mind being misled in any small fashion. Be out front about. (I know, I know, I can't resist puns <grin>)

Alpalino google search

womble -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 19:20:51)

Hmmmmmmm......

alpalino -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 20:13:18)

Wow. A lot to answer. Okay lets start:

Reflect:

This is a site for people, who are new to SEO (like me). I just put my findings in a blog so as it helps me it can help to others. I actually get good responds as well. So that means some finds it useful. And hey what is wrong to log your findings and share it with others. I don't think just because I wrote about SEO makes me claim anything. As people blog about daily events and that don't make them journalist or reporter. Finaly my advice about signatures in forums. That is the same reason you and others use sigs. in this forums and other forums. And if i m given the oppurtunity use sigs. why shouldn't I use it. And if i receive traffic from it, why shouldn't i advice it to others. Be honest and tell me when they ask you a question about free traffic, what advice do you give?

tinaalice:

Of course you are free to whatever you think. White hat SEO? Yes that is what i aim for. Hopefuly one day I will declare it. I am 19 and long way to go. If i am misleding any body in my blog, please point where and I will change it. Also you are welcome to right correct information on my blog.

Nicole:

I didn't get your point. trying to find out the forums I am member of? I don't know what is it got to do with it.

My best regards to all of you

womble -> RE: Still No backlinks from google (9/15/2006 20:38:42)

The problem is that we get a lot of spammers around here who post a "question" and their link drop or their link in their profile, and then scarper, and meanwhile we waste time answering people who came here with no intention of wanting to learn anything, when we could be spending time doing paid work.

Often they post on multiple forums with the same or very similar questions. We get to know the tricks, so we tend to get a tad cynical at time. Like I said, those who spend a lot of time on here, get a little fed up of these kind of antics, and asking questions about SEO when you site seems to be talking knowledgably about SEO arouses our suspicions.

Yes, some people do use sigs to generate traffic, and again the spammers is why sigs aren't allowed on Outfront until a certain number of posts has been reached.

Free link exchanges with likeminded sites, not spamming forums.

It demonstrates history of posting - it shows that youve been doing a similar things in other forums. Its hard not to be cynical when someone has a blogspot about something they dont quite understand

I didn't get your point.

I think you do.

I also think that if you have been around long enough to start a blog about SEO, post at more than one forum or online community type place then you know exactly what people are saying or maybe thinking.

Post away with excuses and the like all you want, end of the day time will show you to be what you are or not. If you are still around long enough that is...

All seems a bit too convinient to me, but then again I am not cynical, I am just untrusting point blank. Saves time all around I find. [8D]
