Server Error: Cannot rename ".filename.htn.tmp" - 9/12/2006 22:52:54
I am unable to save new or existing webpages to my live site. I receive the subject message where the preceding "." and the ending ".tmp" in the file name are added by FrontPage. I am able to do the operations locally on my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

BKP

Do you host this yourself or use a hosting company?

Have you gone in and recalculated the FPSE via the control panel (if offered?) Or if you host it yourself, go thru IIS to get to the FP Admin control panel or maybe sign into the FP Admin Control panel when you are sign into the server?

Hello...Newbie here. I am hosted with Comcast. I have tried deleting all tmp files and recalculating hyperlinks with no improvement. If possible, please provide dumbed down version of your advise

Thanks,

You say you can open your site live. While in live, go to Tools - Server - Administration Home. Here you can hopefully choose to recalculate the web. (Recalculate Tools is different.) If not, you need to contact your hosting company and ask them to repair the FPSE

When I went to Comcast Control Central to re-fresh the FrontPage Server Extentions, I found out from an obscure FAQ that the problem was that I was close to my space limit and needed to delete some obsolete content. After doing so, I am able to save pages normally.

Thanks for your help.

Yes - I forgot about that one. Some companies have that error. I think Hostway used to do that - they limited an account to 5,000 files and I ran into that issue a few times. Glad it all worked out for you.
