Frontpage on local IIS/Localhost editing on network PC - 9/14/2006 13:04:16
Hi, Looked at some similar topics but they don't seem to fit... Machine (1) running XP Pro with IIS/Localhost. FP 2003 installed. 10/100 network through broadband router with machine (2) in another room. Can (1) be set so that (2) can edit the FP sites on (1) and view (1)'s Localhost on (2). Then (2) publish to InterNet? Both are on My Network Places under group = Workgroup and can 'see' each others Shared folders. (1)'s name = 'iis1' and can find - http://iis1/localstart.asp (2) can find - http://iis1/localstart.asp Pinged locahost on (1) = 127.0.0.1 When (1) tries to find http://127.0.0.1 I am asked for UN + PW ??? (2) and http://127.0.0.1 gets page not found. Don't know if this is relevant but - (1) http://localhost/iishelp/ returns - Directory Listing Denied This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed Used to work a few weeks ago, only MS updates since and now it doesn't show help. Router = 192.168.0.1 (1) & (2) are set to Obtain IP adress automatically. but Ping to 192.168..0.2 and 192.168..0.3 Any help, please.

http://127.0.0.1 gets page not found. Machine 2 will never see that on machine 1. That address (127.0.0.1) is the internal IP interface address and will never leave that machine. I have never had good luck using names and workgroups together. If you had a domain controller, it's a little easier. I'd suggest getting the real IP address of machine 1. You can get that by opening a command prompt on machine 1 and typing "ipconfig" and the real IP address should be displayed. Then you can have machine 2 try going to: Http://192.168.0.1/index.htm (or something close to that). Try using a regular HTM page and the IP address to start with. That takes a lot of other possibilities out of the picture right away. At least where the connectivity issue is concerned. EDIT. Just re-read your posts and saw the IP addresses. My post should still help. Hope it helps.

rdouglas - Thanks Tried the IP address route and it didn't work - page not found. Should I set (1) and (2) to Static IP adresses ? Might this be key? -- Just tried (1) to - http://192.168.0.3/localstart.asp - got login box UN + PW - what's that about?
