Fixing / Selling a Notebook PC - 9/22/2006 16:08:28
Hello. I hope this is posted in the appropriate forum. :) I have two related questions I was hoping someone might have some answers to…

First, I have a notebook PC (SONY VAIO PCG FRV37) that needs a repair. In particular, the built in speakers have stopped working. The headphones work fine, volume is on, mute is off, sound card is enabled, no conflicts to report that I am aware of and the volume is turned on in the BIOS. The problem started somewhat intermittently as I was using iTunes, and finally got to the point where the speakers cut out when the headphones were plugged in one last time. Strange… I was hoping someone might be able to suggest a fix? Everything else works normally. I even went so far as to wipe the drive and restore the original software on the unit.

Either way, this SONY is no longer my primary notebook. Which brings me to my second question: Whether or not anyone is able to suggest a fix, I was interested in selling the PC. Is it generally best to sell it as is, or is it best to sell it in individual parts: hard drive, memory, some software titles, etc?

Thanks – jcm001

Stick it on EBAY with an honest description. I saw an iBook with non-working speakers, hard drive removed go for £300 a couple of weeks ago.

I agree with Jaybee - someone might need an extra notebook for whatever reason and won't care about the speakers. Usually my speakers are off on the desktop actually.

And probably the more honest you are about it - the better and more chances of a good sale. Good luck with it!
