As we all know, sites can look very different on different PCs/monitors, including how the colours show up.
Nearing completion of a site, I spent two hours last night trying to tweak the CSS on said site to get the colour scheme right. For various reasons I've been mainly working on my laptop recently, and the colour scheme on the site in question looked fine on that, but others who've seen the site complained that they needed sunglasses! Eeeek! When I investigated on my PC, the colours were indeed a tad on the bright side, hence the tweaking of the CSS, but I also discovered that I'd somehow got the brightness on the monitor turned right up. Much tweaking of the contrast and brightness on the monitor left things either too bright or too dingy, and I couldn't seem to find the right balance, but this morning I came across this handy little page for helping to calibrate your monitor. Not as accurate as the various monitor calibration gadgets you can get that automatically calibrate your monitor for you, but free, and helps you get somewhere close to getting the contrast and brightness on your monitor set right.
