Can anyone recommend a kid safe browser? I'm looking for something with the following features:
  • Age based content.
  • can't exit browser without parental password
  • can't print without parental password
  • parents able to add allowed sites
  • free or inexpensive
All the above would be nice, but really all I need is a utility that only allows browsing (no desktop access) and the ability to keep the child on listed domains.

A few years ago I subscribed to AmiWeb, which was only $20 USD per year. But it looks to be extinct now. The only new ones I have found are $70+ per year. I'll spend that much if I need to, but I'd rather not.

Any suggestions?

Look at 'Content Protect'... http://www.contentwatch.com/products/contentprotect.php

I hate it, but have a 16 year old hormone (boy). It keeps him from going to all the sites you don't want them to. Doesn't do anything for desktop though, just an internet filter.

The only one I have any experience with is Net Nanny.

I found mykidsbrowser, which does lock the user off of the desktop. It's actually everything I want, except that I have to manually toggle the program into the "kiosk mode" (locking the child into the program and off the desktop).

I've written the author to see if there is a way to just put it in the startup menu and have it launch straight into kiosk mode. But even without that feature, it's great. I love the simplicity. I could care less about complex filters. For the most part, I just want to lock the desktop, control the printer, and choose what sites the child can visit.

But I'm still open to looking around, if anyone else has any they have tried and can suggest.
