christinawv -> Authentication error on server (9/27/2006 20:43:28)

Hi, I've been using Microsoft Frontpage for at least 7 years. I'm a web/graphic designer and most often host my clients sites on my own server (I pay another company for virtual hosting capability). A few months ago I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled everything. I have Microsoft Office XP SP3/Frontpage 2002 SP3. I've successfully been able to open the web sites in internet explorer, click edit with frontpage, log in window pops up, and log into my sites. I've been successful with sites on my server and bravenets server. FYI, for other users, if I do not get the log in window, It's always because the frontpage extensions have not been installed properly. Once frontpage extension are reinstalled the log in window will pop up. Now, since the replacement of the hard drive and reinstalling everything, I've noticed that sometimes the log in window doesn't pop up. I can close internet explorer, reopen, and click edit with frontpage and the log in window pops up. It seems to be random. I might have to repeat that process several times to get the log in window. So, that's my first question. Why is this happening? Does it have to do with Microsoft updates. I now have Service Pack II. I never had that problem before hard drive replacement when I had Service Pack I. The next question: I have a client who's site is hosted at www.ewebforce.net. I used to be able to log in successfully before the new hard drive. Now when I open the site in internet explorer, and click edit with frontpage, I do get the log in window but it will not accept the username and password. I contacted the host at web force and they reset the username and password. They walked me through logging in via ftp in internet explorer to prove to me that the username and password worked. They tell me the problem must be on my pc. That it could be security issues with Windows XP firewall. Since, frontpage uses port 80 the same as the internet. I doubt that's it. I was able to log into the sites cpanel with internet explorer and view the error logs for the site. The error logs stated the following error: [fp-auth] [error] authenticate failed using /usr/home/cos01/public_html/_vti_pvt/service.pwd user=cos01 at /usr/local/frontpage/version5.0/apache-fp/fp-auth line 157. Can anyone provide me some troubleshooting for this issue? I truly think it's the web hosts responsibility to come up with a solution considering, it could be several things on the server side. If not, what could it be on my end? Please help, Christina
