ANYONE USING ADAWARE FREE - 10/5/2006 15:51:26
I know there are a lot of you using this.

Lavasoft was sold. The free version of Ad-Aware has stopped updating since 19th September when the latest issue was SE IR124.19.9.

You are not properly protected. Either go for the paid version or look for something else.

[edit] Paid version gets downloads but I'm told they don't install.

Darn. This was my favorite out of the two I use.

Thanks for the info!

Strange - I'm getting a message that there is a new definition file available dated today - but I can't download it.

Methinks the new owners don't have a clue.

I was just able to download and install 10/6 file... No problems... Am I missing something?

Although I use Spy Sweeper family edition now... Saw it onsale at bestbuy for $20. Can be used on up to three computers...

Thanks for posting this Jaybee. I was wondering why I was only able to install 34% of the latest update. Now I know!

- If you look above it doesn't look like the update is supposed to stall. People above report that it updated just fine.... Sounds like you have another problem.

I just updated mine with no issues too...

I don't use Adaware, stopped about 3 years ago when I had some major problems with it.

My OH still can't get it to install, just locks up.

I don't have a link as such Bobby. A friend on another board had found problems, searched for a fix and discovered a lot of people having trouble. He got in touch with "Lavasoft" and was told that the whole thing had been sold and they weren't updating the free version but that the paid version would continue as normal. That's when OH went to check and hasn't been able to get the install to work on his paid copy.

Harv says his seems to install, goes to 100% but when he checks he still has the previous version number, it hasn't installed the new one.

I'm not having a problem on any of my PC's. The latest definition file downloads ok and the correct file reference is shown.

Hopefully it was just a 'blip'

I've just updated mine, and it seems to have done it okay (at least it says it has) (paid version). I only use mine occasionally though and never got round to setting up the scheduled scan thingy - I switch to Ewido a month or so ago that does everything all in one, and seems to do it okay.

Yes that's why I stopped using it. He hasn't had any problems since he installed it though. Until now. Maybe they've changed something.

I was having issues with it too, until now. What I used to do is uninstall the program and download it again giving me the latest definitions. It took a couple more minutes that way but was worth it.

Have you tried downloading the free version and see if you can update that. It might prove or disprove that something is blocking it at your end.

Just a thought
