I'm getting into Feedburner http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/home (a stats service for rss feeds.) Iit seems pretty darn nice so far. I will let you know how things progress.
Will it replace email?

Hi Thomas,
I just subscribed to your FeedBurner email notification service. Since I am mainly just a reader (lurker) on your forum, I prefer the email notifications instead of subscribing to an RSS feed for your site.
I like receiving the periodic notifications via email. That way I take to the time to read some of the posts. If I was subscribing to a feed (on this site), I might not find the time to read each post as it shows up in the feed.
For high volume sites, RSS is good, but I can only monitor so many feeds, so email works for me on your site.

I really enjoy the little newsletter and always find something worthwhile in each issue. I have found some of the highlights to be quite helpful, amusing, or thought-provoking. I am afraid that without the guidance of these highlights, I'll miss all the good stuff when overwhelmed by a feed. Maybe I'm just resisting this change, because this feed thing is new to me, but I still feel like I'll miss the newsletter, regardless. Thank you for listening!!!

I've been receiving and enjoying your weekly newsletters for many years.
I continue to look at them each week.
Although I started using FrontPage, I switched over to Dreamweaver many years ago. I have no intention of changing to the new Microsoft program.
I recently had an issue creating a CD-ROM version of my catalog. It's nice to know that I can post some queries on your website.
Email works for me. I control our email server so I made sure your NL gets through. I understand your disappointment and frustration with sending out e-mails however.

I personally like the periodic email. I find them interesting reads. They are quick to read - and if I find a topic of interest... I only click to read more.
RSS feeds would overload my growing incoming email and I would probably fast assign them as SPAM and they would automatically get deleted with out reading them.
Keep the weekly emails.. its a good thing.

FYI,
The only feed items that go out via rss are the same items that go out in the Email newsletter.
I have not automated the process because I don't want to overwhelm anyone with items. I just pick out the items that I think would be of the most general interest each week.
The email notification goes out when Feedburner sees that I have updated my .rss file. I normally do that once a week.

Not sure I understand. RSS feeds are separate from email. The whole attraction to rss is that you don't get filtered out by spam filters.
The problem with rss feeds is that most people don't currently use them the way they were intended to be used.
If you have a My Yahoo or My Google start page then you can subscribe to feeds like OutFront-News and have the most current items displayed on that page. You can set it so that you only display feeds from the past week, day, hour, etc.
Or, you can get a feedreader like Pluck and have all of your news very well organized for your personal consumption.
Since a lot of people don't really use rss in this way, we have to combine it with email alerts. This pretty much defeats the original purpose. The email alerts will be filtered out just like the newsletter. I'm beginning to wonder if the issue isn't just completely hopeless.

FYI,
Each week, over 5,000 of my emails fail to reach the subscribers. That number has been growing every single week for 4 years.
My only hope for dealing with this is RSS. Not sure it will be the answer, but I think I have to try.

Your news thingy has been my only source for FP news for a looooong time now. Sorry to see it go the way of all things. I signed up for the new experiment. Like everyone else I always enjoy seeing your mail and quite often it gives me ideas. Some of em are even good. Ha!

New subscription won't let me sign up. Keep getting kicked out when I try to type in the letters asked for. Don't know if it's a problem because of the "poorly" shaped letters and I'm not reading them correctly or a problem with the AOL browser not accepting them.
Will try again through Firefox and see if it works; however, right off the bat I'm going to say I prefer the email.
