any way to unencrypt my encrypted file? - 10/5/2006 21:48:29
Hi, I just reformatted my HD and forgot to unencrypt a few files before doing so. Is there any way to get these files back?

Question, did you have an image or full backup? If so there is still hope. You can restore that image to another drive, mount that drive as the primary. Then make a backup of the key. Then use that key on the new drive. http://komando.com/tips/index.aspx?id=1970 Take care, Brian

they were just copies of the encrypted files, i didn't make a full backup, I just copied the files i wanted... It doesn't ever ask for a password, it says the administrator has to give permission to access the files

How are you trying to decrypt it?

Honestly, I thought I would be able to open it, 'cause I am the administrator, I didn't realize it was really locked this well, I cant copy, move, extract, Hex, or do anything else to these files, I can't even delete them... Next time i make something secure I am going to use something I understand completely... and here is what it was saying about the certificates: quote:
This CA Root certificate is not trusted because it is not in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.
