I've had this happen in the past and never found a way round it. There was nothing important so I didn't bother chasing it up. A client now has the same problem and has yelled for help so I really need to look into it a bit more.

She's done something on Outlook Express, not sure what as she's none too clear but basically all her emails have vanished. She does have a .dbx file sitting there that seems to have everything in it but you can't open it in OE or Outlook only Notepad, where the contents are pretty much unreadable.

Anyone found anything that allows dbx files to be opened formatted?

I'm sure there was a thread on here about this ages ago. I'll have a search and see if I can spot it.

Make sure the files are backed up, and then backed up again. With MS Outlook, you can set the location for the dbx files, I don't believe OE allows you to do this.

Because of that, I would create a new identity (then close OE), then paste the backed up files into the folder with the new identity. Then log into OE using the new identity. Once it works, make that new idendity the default one.

Umm - couldn't see any I'm afraid.

If the file has been corrupted there are 1001 programs out there that will re-construct the file ..... but you probably know that already [:)]
