Excluding shopping carts, What functionality beyond static pages and contact forms do your clients ask for the most?

Hi I've been around awhile but I've only posted maybe two other messages. Great info here so I figured I would jump into this topic.

Without a doubt the thing our users want the most is the ability to update their pages without needing to know a lot about design.

I started using Content Seed (which I found out about through this forum) and it has been one of the best selling points not only for new design work but for our existing customers.

The next biggest request has been event calendars. We're in the process of looking for a developers version of an event calendar that we can implement similar to what we've done with Content Seed.

I re-use a home-made PHP/MySQL script that I've used sucessfully several times before.

The other thing people ask for is to be able to update the whole site themselves - for which I use WordPress as a CMS.

CMS and then they're either too scared to use it or so gungho that they cause havoc.

Video is becoming more popular, and a problem too.... persuading them that it's not a good idea to have an hour of their latest presentation on the site.

Other than that, shops. I've just finished 1 and have two more in the queue.

These days most of the customer need control over their site in any situation, that is the reason they ask for dynamic control panel and urge to make their shopping cart both user and search engine friendly.

besides CMS (which i can take care of nicely) :-)
it's some sort of database listing script whether for car dealers, or realestate companies, etc.
I think another big one is image uploading.
guess what, besides the car dealer application we're working on currently i'm very close on an active-x controll that will allow not only uploads, but also rudimentary image editing such as crop, contrast, brightness, and rotation.
I've found that the clients that want the db scripts are often unable to use outside tools to edit images.
Hopefully the new active-x object will fix this. ;-)

- Will that work flawlessly across the major browsers?

definately not.
active-x is kind of an IE only thing.
since it's not intended for the "visitors" and really just for "admin" panel use, i don't mind that it's IE only. Kind of how i don't mind using frames in an admin area. :-)

Tell me about it. I've just spent 2 hours with a client who has a cms and uploads photos who seems to find it impossible to get them under 150K-200K for a 300 x 200 image.

I use MS SQL with MS Access as the front end on there systems.

I can then create really nice forms for them to use.

Access is linked via ODBC on there system back to the MS SQL online server.

Works really well and is very simple to use
