Man! Dreamweaver is smart! - 10/12/2006 12:45:47
Due to a change in jobs I began using Dreamweaver pretty much exclusively about two years ago. I have become so converted that after a hard drive crash a couple of months ago I didn't even reinstall FP.

Anyway, I was working on a page today and needed to bold just one word in a sentence. My stylesheet has a class for bolding, but being lazy I just selected the word and hit the old Ctrl-B. I assumed this would wrap the word in <strong></strong> tags. NO! Dreamweaver was smart enough to see that my stylesheet had a class for bolding and used my class inside a span instead!

I am very impressed. My hat's off to the DW developers.

P.S. However, DW is not perfect. Just as I was getting ready to post this, I added one line to my stylesheet. DW didn't like it and immediately shut down causing me to lose an hour or so worth of work. I don't recall ever having FP crash on me, but DW has done so a dozen or so times. :)

...and if you did not have an existing class for bold, DW would never use the <strong> tag - it would use an in ine style as default. ps has never crashed on me

Hmm. Not true in my case. I created a new document with no stylesheet attached. I highlighted a word and did Ctrl B and it wraps the word in <strong></strong>.

I think the crashing has something to do with the javascript DW uses and perhaps some incompatibility on my machine. I had a couple of coworkers edit the same stylesheet in the same fashion I had done and it did not crash. Went back to my desk and did the same thing and down it went.

You can set your preferences to do style or inline html.

I've been using it about the same amount of time. Yes I'm very happy with it also. Never had a crashing problem.
