PCMag.com Product Review: Expression Web (beta) - 10/16/2006 10:58:21
quote:
BOTTOM LINE For knowledgeable Web authors, this beta looks like it's going to be the best editor out there--but without the beginner-style handholding offered by FrontPage. PROS Up-to-date standards-based web editor with drag-and-drop XML support built in. Interface similar enough to FrontPage that you'll need minimal retraining. Efficient use of Cascading Style Sheets for sleek, compatible coding. CONS Somewhat steep learning curve for full use of database, RSS, and advanced features. No built-in support for automated validation of PHP pages. Read the full review here

I hate reviews like this, it makes everything sound so bias. So if we don't think this is the best editor around, we are not "knowledgeable"? Sounds like MS was handed the review before it was published.

If you actually read the review in full it concludes: quote:
If you know what you're doing, this is a breathtakingly powerful product, and I only wish it could include a bit more of the late lamented FrontPage's handholding for beginners. The author also notes that PHP support is lacking, so on the whole I don't think that there is marked bias in the review and the author has been fair.

i read it as: if you're not knowledgeable then you won't find it the best editor as it doesn't do hand-holding.

Hmm gonna have to start watching this. Downloaded the 201mb. Installed ok. Works concurrently with FP2003. Couple of observations. It lacks global website management in terms of menu's. At the moment is requires you to manually edit/add each page in an external XML file. Can not find the sample in the download set of files. Lacks the use of INCLUDE's. Did find that I could copy a FP2003 footer bot code snippet and paste it into an expression page.. and edit to read /include/footer.htm to /include/menu.htm. Then I could see the included page in the Design view. Just a thought.
