I have a non- professional site that I've been running for just over a year. As a result there is a reasonable amount of content now, plus a forum (for friends only).

I'm always thinking of ways to improve it, and so can you give me a critique, and offer an idea of the areas I can improve on please.

The first thing that strikes my eye is that the casual font and the round forms don't suit the rest of the page, which consists of boxes and borders. They totally clash. Make also the rest of it more rounded and soft, it seriously needs that.

Second, tell what the website is about. If it isn't really about anything specific, tell that it's about many things. If it's not about anything, tell it's about nothing. Just give some introduction, the viewers have hard time judging the use of the website based on the design. Tell them who runs the site, what's its purpose etc, but very briefly.

The website is also inaccessible, but it's a technical rather than a design problem. At least the images are completely missing alt texts.

What do you mean by "inaccessible" please? and also what is the purpose of "alt texts", and how do you add them?

I see your point about the casual heading and main link fonts, and then the rest of the page being more rigid... I'll have to consider some changes.

As for an introduction to the site, I guess I omitted that because the main viewers/users are friends, family and my sons friends and football team mates, and so they know the purpose without an intro.

I appreciate the critical view though... all my "friends and family" say it's wonderful, but I know that an amateur site, let alone a professional one, will never be perfect.

Any other views therefore greatly welcomed...

Alt text shows when an image is missing or if the viewer has images off in their browser. It's also great for blind people using screen readers. In FP design view, right click on the picture, select picture properties,

by inaccessible he means that the site cannot be accessed by screen readers, those with images or javascript turned off in their browsers and so on. As it's a personal site it's not a major problem unless one of your family suddenly requires it.
